 JOHANNESBURG, South Africa | Russian Kseniya Sukhinova is the new Miss World.
The 21-year old student from Siberia also won the contest's top model award and was third in the swimsuit competition of the 58th annual pageant,
Miss India Parvathy Omankuttan was picked the first runner-up and Miss Trinidad and Tobago Gabrielle Walcott won third place.
Organizers claimed 1 billion people from 187 countries watched the broadcast of the event.
The first Russian winner of the international beauty pageant was Yulia Kurochkina in 1992.

 Stellar Marianas to present last Miss Marianas pageant. This Saturday, one queen will be crowned to represent the CNMI in the 2009 Miss Universe and Miss International pageants.
After months of hard work and preparation, five beautiful contestants will compete in the 2008 Miss Marianas Universe Pageant on Nov. 29, from 7pm to 10pm at the Palms Resort Saipan Theater Hall.
Doors will open at 6pm and tickets are now being sold for $20 a person at the Marianas Variety office in Garapan.

 Miss World candidates hang up their heels for South African safari. Trading their stilettos for sneakers and cocktail gowns for khakis, Miss World contestants broke from their pageant preparations to trek into the South African bush... just for a short safari.
"I never thought I'd be close to nature, living in a mud hut or tent, playing with the animals, lions and cheetahs. It's better than a five-star hotel!" gushed Miss India, Parvathy Omanakuttan.
Wearing an apron and a white chef's hat, the 21-year-old helped whip up a traditional Zulu dish, and then cut the rug with some impromptu dance steps along with the other beauties in a scene more holiday resort than competition.

The Miss World Pageant 2008 is taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa and the contestants are participating in a month-long itinerary of events and photo calls.
Miss World describes itself as "the original and most popular beauty pageant in the world." Each year young women from every country compete in front of over a billion television viewers.
