Vancouver’s Shalane Larango will represent Washington this month when she competes in the Miss Teen USA contest in Pasadena.
Each contestant knows her every word and action will be scrutinized during the pageant. But there’s even more pressure to avoid miscues this year.
Film crews for a television reality show will be following the young women during the two weeks they are in Southern California. The television show, “Pageant Place,” will air this fall and will include the drama behind the Miss Teen USA contest, as well as the Miss USA and Miss Universe contests held earlier this year.
Larango, 18, graduated this year from Ridgefield High School and is well-versed in pageant etiquette. In addition to finishing first among 50 contestants in the Miss Washington Teen USA pageant, she won Miss Washington Outstanding Teen in 2005 and went on to be second runner-up in the Miss America Outstanding Teen Pageant. Since 2005, Larango has won more than $32,000 in scholarships. / VANCOUVER NEWS FEED
