The world has certainly come to know more about Vietnam as a beautiful and dynamic country after it co-hosted the Miss Earth 2007 contest, happy winners and organizers told a press conference Thursday after the contest wrapped up. Winners at the three-day Vietnam leg, where awards were given away in four categories, included Vietnam's own Truong Tri Truc Diem. Peru's Odilia Garcia, who won the Miss Fitness prize, told the media that by successfully organizing the pageant Vietnam had strengthened its image globally. "A lot more people have come to realize a new and dynamic Vietnam which is steadily on its way to integrate globally," she said. She admitted that Vietnam had only meant "war" to her before arriving in the country. South Korea's Yoo Ji-Eun, who was named Miss Charm, told Thanh Nien that after returning home she would "definitely tell my relatives and friends to visit Vietnam, a beautiful country with hospitable people."
She also thanked the audience for their encouragement. Ramon Monzon, president of Carousel Production, the pageant's main organizer, said, "I was impressed by Vietnam's hospitality. The Vietnam leg has been a success. It proved that Vietnam is not only a tourist hotspot but also a perfect venue for beauty contests and other inter-national events." Truc Diem, who was named Miss Fashion, said she was proud to have won such a prize for Vietnam. "I'd like to thank the Vietnamese people for their wholehearted support. I missed Vietnam a lot when I was in the Philippines." Diem confessed earlier she had been nervous before the final prize was announced: "I closed my eyes and prayed." Diem promised to try her best to popularize the charm of the traditional Vietnamese long tunic, the ao dai, and, indeed, Vietnamese fashion globally. She would also actively promote a clean and green world, she added./Quynh Nhu
