In a major cooperation between the Beijing Olympic Committee and the Miss World Organisation, the 106 Miss World contestants today attended a recording studio in Beijing to record the torch relay anthem - Light the Passion, Share the Dream - for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

With only 263 days to the Olympics this amazing song was announced to the world at a press conference with over 150 international media in attendance.

The contestants attended the recording studio in the morning following an early departure from Tianjin and a smooth coach journey to the Chinese capital. In just a couple of hours they had brought the song to life with voices from across the globe.

At the press conference Miss World Chairman, Mrs Julia Morley, thanked the Olympic committee and addressed the audience: “Each contestant is a national winner and an ambassador for her country, representing all the best qualities.

“Our theme is beauty with a purpose which raises millions of dollars every year for children’s charities. We are proud to be part of the torch relay anthem and offer sincere good wishes for a successful 2008 Beijing Olympics.

“The spirit of great communication and mutual respect is something we both share.”

 

  

Chris Babida, who produced the music and lyrics for the song, spoke about his delight when he heard it all come together: “I was very excited today when I heard the English version for the first time.

“As a composer it brings a tear to your eye. All the contestants worked very hard and they are all extremely talented and worked incredibly hard, you can feel the atmosphere com alive in the song.

“I would like to thank the Beijing Olympic Committee and all the Miss World contestants for making this happen.”

At the end of the Chris Babida’s speech the music from ‘Light the Passion, Share the Dream’ filled the press conference and all the contestants erupted in song.

The whole of the room was electric as the contestants sang out and the eyes of the world’s media captured the event.

The song will have its first broadcast to a global audience of over 2 billion viewers at the 57th Miss World 2007 Final in Sanya, China on the 1 December. /missworld.tv
