Miss Vietnam UniverseThe organisers of Miss Universe pageant are in Vietnam for a two-week work trip to prepare for Miss Universe 2008 pageant.

Leading the high-ranking expert group of Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) is Vice Chairwoman Rachel Frimer.

The group worked with the Vietnamese organsing board of Miss Universe 2008 on the construction pace of the Crown Convention Centre and other preparation tasks.

According to the Vietnamese partner, 80% of the Crown Convention Centre is completed and equipment installation will begin in early June.

“We are working day and night and will complete the Crown Convention Centre in late May as scheduled,” affirmed James Dunne, MUO’s Design Manager cum Construction Supervisor in Vietnam.

Nguyen Quoc Toan, Vice Head of the Miss Universe 2008 organising board, said the construction of the press centre is finished, with a private zone for the US’ NBC channel, which will air the final of Miss Universe 2008 live on the morning of July 14 (Vietnam time).

MUO’s designers plan to build a 1,000sq.m stage for the final contest, with Vietnamese bamboo and lanterns as the major patterns. The stage background will feature Vietnamese cultural symbols, including Dong Son bronze drum, Khue Van Cac, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ha Long Bay, Nha Trang sea and images of Vietnam shot by NBC.

The stage design will be submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for approval, said Le Xuan Than, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa province, which is hosting the event.

During the two-week trip, a film-making group will shoot clips in HCM City, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hue, Hanoi, etc., which will be compiled into a nine-minute video clip about Vietnam to be broadcast on NBC.

Film makers will return to Vietnam in mid June to film competitors of Miss Universe 2008. A group of experts of MUO will come to Vietnam this month and will stay here till the pageant closes.

The MUO’s working group led by Rachel Frimer will leave Vietnam on May 16. “This is the last field trip. We have nearly completed preparations for the Miss Universe 2008 in Vietnam,” she said. /english.vietnamnet.vn
