Miss Spain
Miss Spain 2007 Natalia Zabala. The Miss Spain beauty contest has changed its rules to allow transsexuals and mothers to compete for the title for the first time in order to avoid any discrimination among candidates.

The Miss Spain beauty contest has changed its rules to allow mothers to compete after its decision to dethrone a 22-year-old beauty queen when it emerged she had a child met with national outrage in February.

Angela Bustillo, who has a toddler son, won the title of Miss Cantabria, a region on Spain's northern coast, in January but organizers disqualified her citing rules that contestants cannot have children.

The decision sparked widespread outrage in the Spanish press and expression s of support for the dethroned queen from feminist organizations to the head of the Cantabrian local government.

"I knew what it said in the contest conditions, but it seemed so absurd. I thought it must be something left over from the 1970s that they had forgotten to bring up to date," Bustillo, a former supermarket worker, said at the time.

Hoai-Linh: Sigh...
I find that if Miss dethroned Spain was proper enough or at least strong enough, she would have fought for a mother to be a beauty queen before she entered the competition, ASSUMING that "it must be something left over from the 1970s that they had forgotten to bring up to date"... That would have shown true strength and the will to fight, which is what is also searched in a beauty queen - ie inner beauty...

And I agree too, transexuals are NOT women!!!!

dal: transexuals - in competition
This is ridiculous!
They want to declare that they are women!
Fine, let them be women, however they shall not compete with women WHO WERE BORN AS WOMEN. Now, stipulating that denying them right to compete, is not discriminatory it is just common sense! They want to change their sex, as disgusting and sick this seems to lots of people, including probably some of the gay communities, is fully apparently according to laws their own right, however Miss beauty is solely for women, women who were born as female naturally. If transexuals, want to have their own Miss pageants, they are welcome to finance it on their own and invite the community members who want to attend to such events. When we attend an event to discover who is the prettiest woman on the planet, I think that I speak for everyone, we do not want to have a question asked "is that a guy or a girl." Anyways, it is as same as "female" being in relationship and apparently soon to be groom never discovers whether that other person was naturally born girl of boy, then my ladies and gentlemen, and then those who wish to be one or the other, we have dishonesty, and discrimination towards persons who wish to live a way of life based on basic principle of honesty.

The final message is: you want to become a woman, let the whole world know who exactly you are, since I am certain that you don't have anything to be ashamed of.

If transexuals are allowed to compete in this competition, I would have to say that our world has taken another approach towards insanity, anarchy and comnplete chaos.

Natalie : Allowing transsexuals is unreasonable
I think allowing mothers is OK but .However , allowing transsexuals is unreasonable. I don't intend to discriminate but there should be some limit.
