She's taking a year away from school and work, but Roberta Camp said being Miss Ohio 2007 is worth it.
"I just want to give 100 percent to the Miss Ohio program this year," Camp said this week. "Last year's Miss Ohio, Melanie Murphy, made about 280 appearances and I want to try and make 300." Camp, who was crowned June 16 at the Renaissance Theatre, is well on her way. The 23-year-old Grove City native said she's already made stops in Columbus, Defiance, Dayton, Miamisburg and Mansfield.
"My very first day on the job I got to have fun," Camp said. "I went to Miamisburg, got my hair done and had my official Miss Ohio photo shoot."
Camp said she has also met with a vocal coach to prepare for Miss America in January.
She also made an appearance at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Columbus last weekend.
"I've really been doing a lot of planning and organizing," she said. "I've also been living on my mom's couch for the past week and a half. I'm going to be moving back in with her for the year. She's a great support and helps me out a lot."
Camp spent time in Mansfield on Saturday, making an appearance at the Embarq Giant Tent Sale and the Miss Ontario pageant. This week I will be visiting with sponsors and just getting the word out about the Miss Ohio program," she said. "It's a wonderful organization. It's provided me with over $16,000 in scholarships and gives nearly $50 million every year around the country. It has a long tradition of helping women reach their goals."
Camp said one of the things she looks forward to the most is attending the National Character Counts! conference in Anaheim, Calif. Read more: Miss Ohio
