There will be 29 contestants at this year's Miss Uganda pageant, each vying for the crown Praise Akankwatsa has worn during an extended two-year reign. The beauties were unveiled at a low-key cocktail party held at Kampala Serena Hotel's Victoria Gallery last Friday whose guest list comprised a couple of notable city socialites and social climbers. Some of the contestants expected to participate in the Miss Uganda 2007 finals at Serena Hotel on July 28. The finalists include the four regional winners- May Amongi (Northern), Diana Alinaffe (Western), Mary Towaali Kankyo (Eastern) and Victor Daisy Nabagereka (Central)- who had a head start in the contest having been chosen earlier during upcountry searches in the respective towns of Gulu, Fort Portal, Mbale and Jinja.
The rest of the contestants in the Uganda Telecom-sponsored pageant comprise the runners-up at the regional searches and the girls who were selected during the Kampala pre-selection in June. The other 25 include Justine Nambuya, Jasmine Karungi (23), Miriam Birakwate (23, teacher), Maria Bena Owino (20, student-Uganda College of Commerce, Tororo), Winfred Mubiru (22), Deborah Nakumiza (22) and Monica Kansime Kasyate (21, Industrial Fine Art student).
