Thompson beat out 31 other entrants in the three-day competition. She will now represent the Badger State in the Miss America pageant this fall. The first runner-up was Miss Fox River Valley Michelyn Butler, 24, of Madison. The second runner-up was Miss Wisconsin Rapids Area Shinae Kulhanek.
Thompson had been a double winner in preliminary competition. She won the first round of swimsuit competition Thursday night and tied for the talent award Friday night with a classical violin solo.
Grace Gore, 23, a student in the Vanderbilt University doctoral program, recently won the 2007 Miss Tennessee pageant. wsmv.com
